By now many of you have heard about the miracle of two of our employees being rescued after spending 21 hours in the ocean. What may be confusing to some is that although these were two Mokulele co-pilots this was not a Mokulele flight. These pilots were renting a plane on their own time to build multi-engine flight time so that later on they might be more marketable to carriers who operate larger aircraft.<\/p>\n
This is a common practice and has gone on for as long as I can remember. Mokulele does not prohibit our employees from this effort on their own time. That being said, we cannot know the status, maintenance history, or virtually anything about an aircraft not under our control.<\/p>\n
This unfortunate event also underscores the reality of perceived safety with a multi-engine aircraft versus a single engine as the aircraft in this accident was twin engine. The safety and reliability of Mokulele\u2019s late model turbine engine aircraft are immeasurably superior to any older piston powered plane.<\/p>\n
The Cessna Caravan remains one of the safest aircraft ever built. Additionally, Mokulele invests heavily into the safety and training of our flight crews. Safety is and always will be Mokulele\u2019s #1 core value.<\/p>\n
We are eternally grateful that God saw fit to return our family members to us relatively unharmed.<\/p>\n
